According to Discovery Research Group, in 2009 the Russian cosmetics and perfume market was worth $9.9 billion, a 2-3% increase on 2008.

As a result of an import substitution programme, the production of cosmetics and perfumes in Russia grew by 4%.

Based on figures from the Direct Selling Association, perfumes and cosmetics remain the largest segment of direct sales, amounting to 78%. In 2009, direct sales demonstrated strong growth of 20% ($2.95 billion). This has been accompanied by a reallocation of price segments of cosmetics products – from luxury to mass market.

More and more consumers are interested in high-quality and safe cosmetics and perfumes. This is leading to greater competition amongst manufacturers. Natural, medical and organic cosmetics are increasingly in demand amongst consumers.

According to industry experts’ forecasts, in Russia there are good prospects for both the sales of cosmetics and perfumes, and the investment attractiveness of expanding production.

In 2009, the COSMOPHARM sector was visited by manufacturers of medical cosmetics, skincare products, oral hygiene products, personal hygiene products, hair care products, perfumes, make-up, children’s cosmetics, and cosmetic and sanitary wipes.
