Tablets and pills are highly sensitive to moisture. In high-quality tablet containers the desiccant elements which provide protection against the effects of moisture have for some time been incorporated directly in the closure. Under the standards which have so far applied, however, the desiccant element which absorbs moisture was produced separately from the actual closure and incorporated only later as an outsourced component.
Gerresheimer?s Plastic Packaging Division conceived a fully integrated production method which is met with open arms by the pharma industry. At its plant in Vaerloese, Denmark, Gerresheimer set up state-of-the-art clean-room production facilities which now manufacture the desiccant closures completely in one continuous process with fully automated control and monitoring.
The presentation gives a detailed overview of the improvement and benefits that result from the new production method. It also introduces the two patient-oriented tamper-evident variants in which the closure concept is realised, namely the Duma® Twist-Off Cap and the Duma® HandyCap with a simple press-on action.
